This year Father’s Day is on Sunday, June 15th, and we’re here to help Burlington families with showing their appreciation for Dads and all Father figures in our lives. We hope you celebrate by spending time with your loved ones, and perhaps, baking them a delicious treat!
This year, our gift idea is sports themed sugar cookies. They are simple to make and give us lots of fun decorating options.

To begin, bake any type of cookie recipe you or Dad loves. We advice sugar cookies so they are flat and the easiest to decorate (and make!). Use your favourite recipe or buy a pre-made mix, which should only require you add butter and an egg.
Place a spoonful of cookie mix on your tray, flattening it into a round ball with lots of room for expanding. These circles can be made in different sizes, for golf balls, tennis balls, basketballs, etc. To make a football shape, round your cookie into a longer, more oval shape. You can try to make a tie, or any other shape, but these will likely require some fancy knife work around the edges after they’ve finished baking.
Most cookies only take about 10 minutes, so keep your eye on them! Make sure to be cautious while removing the hot tray from the oven.
Once your cookies have cooled (allot about 15 minutes) you may begin to decorate. If you do it when the cookies are too hot, your icing will melt off!
You’re going to want a few different colours, you can mix smaller tubes of coloured icing in with your white icing to make any colour you need. For example, for our basketball cookie, we mixed white icing with yellow and red icing gel. You could also make colours buy mixing in a small amount of food colouring.
Before you add the details to your chosen ball, let your base layer of icing solidify for a few minutes, this way you wont mix any of the colours. We advise you then draw your lines into the icing so you you can visualize the outcome and make sure it looks right! This way the little ones can also follow along with the decorating.
Don’t forget, you can be as creative as you like! Try out different shapes, colours and designs. Keep in mind Dads favourite things and he is sure to appreciate your effort.
Happy Father’s Day, Mississauga Dads!
